This Joseph Furphy Literary Award was inaugurated in 1993 to commemorate 150 years since the birth of Joseph Furphy. Under the pen name of Tom Collins, Joseph Furphy wrote a number of books and articles. His best known work is Such is Life. The Furphy Foundry Pty Ltd generously donates the prize money for this annual competition.
Furphy Literary Award has been established to promote and extend the tradition of story telling, both factual and fictional, that is so much part of Australian life.
How do you enter.
Junior category (up to 12 years) seeks short story entries and Youth category (ages 13 – 18) seeks entries for short stories or poetry.
