Leadership Programs & Events
We have an extensive range of leadership programs for our students to apply for and experience:
Kokoda Track Leadership Program (Available for Year 10 and Year 11 students to apply). This program provides high level practice and knowledge in team building that links to core community priorities, adding on to an already existing high level experience program and formulate a pathway to our Year 12 student leadership program.
Year 10 Outdoor School Future Makers Extension Programs (Sea to Summit, Nepal and the Kimberley’s)
School for Student Leadership Program During Year 8 students can apply to attend the School for Student Leadership for the following year (Year 9). This high level leadership program runs for nine weeks. In the past we have had students attend one of the four campuses ; Dinner Plain on Mt Hotham; Marlo in East Gippsland; and Glenormiston in Western Victoria and Don Valley Campus in Yarra Valley, Victoria.
Year 9 Future Makers Program This is an integral part of the Year 9 curriculum focusing on environment and sustainability that helps students to build resilience, understand their own personal strengths and develop teamwork skills. Through a partnership with Bogong Outdoor School, students undertake a 12 day experience in the high plains during Year 9. Successful completion of this program enables them to apply for a Bogong Extension Program in Year 10 – Summit to Sea and The Kimberley’s Outback and Cultural Program.
Energy Breakthrough Program is an exciting program designed to provide opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle, a machine or innovation in technology that will represent an ‘energy breakthrough’.
In addition to this we have additional external and internal leadership opportunities for students within our Primary and Secondary year levels.
Year 11/12 National Young Leaders Day This event exists to inspire & influence a generation of young people to lead themselves and others well.
International Women’s Day Career Breakfast for girls this event brings together young women from our district to hear and learn from the many women professionals in our local region.
Year 6 GRIP leadership The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as School Leaders. The style, topics, and content of this conference all focus on what the students can do right now.
In-house School Leadership Opportunities Yarrawonga College P-12 aims to provide quality opportunities for each student to develop a range of leadership capabilities. Leadership programs cultivate self-reliance, confidence, self-esteem, appreciation for lifelong learning, creativity, conflict resolution, communication and team building skills – all extremely important skills and abilities for our students……our future leaders.
