Remote & Flexible Learning
DET – Learning from home information for parents DET – Coronavirus advice for parents, carers and guardians
Message from College Principal – Damien Keel
The Victorian Government and the Victorian Department of Education and Training has clearly stated that all students who CAN learn from home MUST learn at home from Wednesday 5th August. This also means that teachers will be working from home to help limit the spread of COVID-19, doing their best to support students learning at home.
Yarrawonga College P-12 will continue to provide Remote and Flexible Learning pages to support you and your family navigating your way through learning in a different way to what you have become accustomed to. I appreciate that this will be again challenging for some families, others may continue to thrive in this environment.
I would really appreciate your continued patience through these uncertain times and new ways of learning, which I’m sure will be challenging sometimes due to different levels of internet connectivity and other technical issues we may face. Once again, we are all in this together, across the whole state of Victoria.
The college will ensure continuity of learning for students and has a clear plan for Remote and Flexible Learning that we have developed for each of the three campuses across P-12. There will be a number of different ways that teachers will be preparing and delivering work to students across the college, an outline of our preferred platforms are listed on this page. Students from Year 7 through to Year 12 will have different forms of delivery that are the most practical for each subject area, please work with individual teachers on this.
Parents are not expected to teach their children, this is the role of teachers working from home. Parents have a role in checking to make sure that children are logging in and/or completing work as outlined by the teacher/s. The college expects parents to make contact if they have concerns about their children’s learning, access to work, assistance to complete tasks, wellbeing and mental health.
The college is working to ensure that Year 12 students complete their VCE, VCAL or VET certificate/s at the end of 2020 and appropriate levels of support are in place. These students will then have the opportunity to apply for University, TAFE, further adult learning, begin apprenticeships or be ready for work in 2021.
Teachers will be available for contact from 9.00am through until 3.15pm, Monday to Friday. Teachers will continue to be a part of video conferencing briefings and meetings outside these hours. The school office will not be open to the public, however, we will be answering phones. If you have any concerns for your child/ren please contact the college office on 5744 1751 during business hours and your call will be directed to appropriate leaders/teachers of the college.
Important Information regarding College Communication
Can I please urge parents to rely on factual information coming through from the college. I will continue to do my best to provide everyone with up to date and reliable information via Compass and Facebook. You will not get information by posting something on Facebook, if the information hasn’t been communicated it means we haven’t received it yet. Again, if you have any questions, please call the college office on 5744 1751 during business hours and your call will be directed to the appropriate leaders/teachers of the college.
All students will be learning from home except for children on days who are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made by the family (Exceptional Circumstances). The college will work to provide a small number of staff to supervise students in this case who will complete either online or remote learning packaged work as per students who are learning from home. All playgrounds at the college will be closed off for the entire community as per advice from the department and is the case across all shires in Victoria to ensure appropriate social distancing measures are enforced.
I hope you find these pages useful for your family and they assist you with this new form of remote and flexible learning that will be in place for at least the duration of Term 3.
