Yarrawonga College P-12 Race the Cumberoona
On Tuesday the 4th of May Yarrawonga College P-12 raced the Cumberoona for their annual Year 7 -12 Cross Country.
Each year the Students race at a different venue and are faced with a different challenge so by the completion of their year 12 year they have had the opportunity to compete in six different cross countries over their time at High School.
This was the sixth different course and challenge for our current year 12 students, and what a unique experience it was: Race the Cumberoona.
Students assembled at the Rowing Club as the Cumberoona left its moorings and once it was away the whistle was sounded loudly signalling the commencement of the great race.
Students raced through to the Yacht Club and along river road through to the foreshore which was a run of approximately 3.2kms.
The Cumberoona steamed around Chinaman’s island and hugged river road. Sounding its whistle to remind the runners it was hot on their tail.
On reaching the finish line three large blasts signalled the end of the race. Approximately 2/3rds of the students and staff can boast that they beat the Cumberoona.
Students and staff have the opportunity until the 21st of June to purchase a Tee Shirt, stating that “I raced the Cumberoona.” Order forms are available from either General Office.
It was a great College event well supported by both students, staff and parents.
Thanks to Allen Ralph’s team from Moira Shire for making the course as safe as possible.
Big thankyou to Fallon’s Buslines for ferrying all the students safely to and from the event.
Thank you so much to the Knowles family and the crew of the Cumberoona, who were so positive in support of the run and donating their time and energy for free.
A race against the Cumberoona would be a great community event for our town in the future. I hope someone will act on this opportunity. If you have any enquiries about the Cumberoona don’t hesitate to contact the friendly crew on 0477666099
