Dear Parent/Caregiver

Dear Parent/Caregiver

A very warm welcome to Yarrawonga College P-12; we are excited to have you and your child/ren at our College where we aim to provide a quality learning experience and care for your entire family.

We are so pleased to be able to have students back at school in these uncertain times, the teachers are currently working very hard to ensure we are identifying learning gaps across the college.  Next year we are fortunate to be receiving additional funding to employ more teachers to support students with any learning they may have missed out on this year.  I’m sure the Coronavirus has impacted your family as well this year, let’s hope for an uninterrupted school year next year.

When your child does arrive at the college next year, rest assured that our Prep teachers know each student extremely well and a comprehensive education program is set out clearly for each individual.  The College has excellent teaching, intervention and support processes that enable our students to achieve strong academic outcomes in Year 3 NAPLAN.  Our students are achieving at and above the State level in all the majority of areas for the NAPLAN Tests.  There is a genuine and caring community feeling among our teachers and students across the College and this is clearly evident at the P-4 Campus.

We now have a very safe and high functioning new road and bus drop off/pick up area with lots of car parks on Gilmore Street.  We are really pleased with the area, at this point we have kept the Woods Road Kiss and Drop Zone.  We are working hard to ensure that the next stage of development occurs and that the 9-12 Campus moves into new buildings as soon as we can.

Facilities at the 5-8 Campus have continued to improve with the addition of another double classroom building for students and we have also secured two new toilet blocks for the Campus.  There’s a strong team of teachers at the 5-8 Campus and they work hard to ensure every student and their learning needs is catered for.

Last year we once again demonstrated evidence of high educational outcomes for students with some excellent VCE results.  There were also fantastic pathway options for all students in senior years including further adult education, apprenticeships, traineeships, jobs, TAFE and university courses.  A growing number of students are achieving early entry into University with students already accepting offers for next year into degrees, which is fantastic.

The College is working to become a zero through to ninety nine years of age learning precinct and we currently offer a number Vocational Education subjects.  Last year we worked with GoTAFE and other stakeholders to complete an adult education feasibility study.  The study found that the college could successfully further develop adult learning opportunities.

In 2021 the College will offer, (in partnership with GO TAFE) a Certificate 3 in Watersports with the future goal to set up a Watersports Academy of Excellence.  The feasibility study will assist us to work on developing a GoTAFE Campus on the ground (located on the Pinniger Street site of Yarrawonga College P-12).

We strive to develop our students self-worth, independence and a sense of community, whilst at the same time instilling the College values of Integrity, Cooperation, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. These five values underpin all that we teach and do. We pride ourselves on providing an environment that is conducive to achieving these aims. Our College uniform is an important part of our positive environment, and we expect it to be worn with pride. We look forward to welcoming you into our College community and sharing the educational journey with your family.

Kind Regards

Damien Keel
